Summer Latin Academy (Academia Aestiva Latina) at the Getty VillaApplications for 2020 will open February 15, 2020 and remain open until May 31 or until spaces are filled. Applications will be processed, assessed, and accepted on a rolling basis in mid March, mid April, mid May, and end of May until spots are filled.\n

The Summer Latin Academy (<\/span>Academia Aestiva<\/em>) at the Getty Villa offers high school students who have taken the equivalent of a full year of high-school Latin an opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture of the ancient Romans. This week-long program combines classroom instruction in spoken Latin in the morning with activity-based exploration of the Getty Villa site and antiquities collection in the afternoon. Led by local teachers affiliated with the\u00a0<\/span>North American Institute for Living Latin Studies (SALVI)<\/a>\u00a0in collaboration with Getty Villa educators and curators, the program offers a chance to discover the benefits of spoken Latin in the unique environment of a museum modeled on an ancient Roman luxury villa. Our theme this year,\u00a0<\/span>Animals in the Roman World<\/i>, examines the role of real and mythological bests in art and literature, and includes a visit to the Getty Center to view relevant Medieval manuscripts.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2020 Latin Academy runs from Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26<\/strong>. This is a day program from 9am – 3pm, and students and their parents are responsible for transportation and meals. Both the application and a teacher’s description of the student’s level of Latin are required. Applications are open as of February 15, 2020 and will remain open with rolling admissions until May 31 or spaces are filled.
