An energizing two-day event on the campus of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN, <\/span><i><span>Biduum <\/span><\/i><span>allows participants to experience a sort of mini-<\/span><i><span>Rusticatio: <\/span><\/i><span>a chance to try out speaking in Latin among new and old friends, an opportunity to strengthen your skills with other Latinists in the powerful and community-building context of an language-immersion experience. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Features of <\/span><i><span>Biduum<\/span><\/i><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>supportive, intimidation-free environment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>communicating entirely in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>high-energy conversation exercises<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>learning and relaxing in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>experiencing, as a student, active teaching methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>games for a variety of learning styles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>techniques that will streamline your teaching<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>readings from Latin literature presented in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>pedagogical discussions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The event serves two groups simultaneously: It offers a mid-year \u201cfix\u201d of immersion Latin for experienced Latin speakers. And it gives the curious a weekend\u2014not a full week\u2014of immersion Latin. You can get a taste during the <\/span><i><span>Biduum<\/span><\/i><span>, and then come back for more in the summer at <\/span><i><span>Rusticatio<\/span><\/i><span>! \u00a0(Curious to hear what people think of SALVI programs? <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/latin.org\/wordpress\/rusticatio-tironum-testimonials\/\"><span>Take a look at reviews<\/span><\/a><span> for <\/span><i><span>Rusticatio<\/span><\/i><span>.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Program Dates:<\/b><span> April 27-29, 2018 (Arrival: Friday, April 27, between 3 and 6 p.m.; Departure: Sunday, April 29, between noon and 3 p.m.) \u00a0We end the event by lunchtime on Sunday, giving participants a half-day and evening before returning to work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility:<\/b><span> You are eligible to attend this workshop if have graduated high school, are at least 18 years of age, and have already learned Latin on paper and are interested in developing active command of the spoken language. Please note that <\/span><i><span>Biduum<\/span><\/i><span> is not an introductory Latin course and thus it is not for people who have no knowledge of the language. Typically, participants have completed, at a minimum, the equivalent of two years of traditional college Latin or four years of a high school Latin program. It is not necessary to have previous experience speaking Latin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location:<\/b><span> We will conduct our workshop sessions on the campus of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN. Howell has a Masters in Teaching Latin and Classical Humanities from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was a finalist for the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, and is a recipient of the Matthew I. Weincke Award from the Classical Association of New England.
