Get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life while enjoying the natural beauty and fall colors of Oklahoma in October. A restorative two-day event at the peaceful\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.springvalleyranchok.com\/\"><span>Spring Valley Ranch<\/span><\/a><span>,\u00a0<\/span><i><span>Biduum\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span>allows participants to experience a sort of mini-<\/span><i><span>Rusticatio:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span>a communal atmosphere with other Latin speakers, reading and conversation around the fire pit, walks through the natural beauty of this 500 acre ranch, and a slate of classroom and other activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Features of\u00a0<\/span><i><span>Biduum<\/span><\/i><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>supportive, intimidation-free environment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>communicating entirely in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>high-energy conversation exercises<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>learning and relaxing in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>experiencing, as a student, active teaching methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>games for a variety of learning styles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>techniques that will streamline your teaching<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>readings from Latin literature presented in Latin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>pedagogical discussions<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>delicious vegetarian meals, beverages, and snacks (don\u2019t worry: meat snacks are provided!)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>a feeling of camaraderie in the beautiful setting that is Spring Valley Ranch in the fall<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The event serves two groups simultaneously: It offers a mid-year \u201cfix\u201d of immersion Latin for experienced Latin speakers. And it gives the curious a weekend\u2014not a full week\u2014of immersion Latin. (Arrival: Saturday, October 6, between 3 and 6 p.m.; Departure: Monday, October 8, between noon and 3 p.m.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility:<\/b><span>\u00a0You are eligible to attend this workshop if have graduated high school, are at least 18 years of age, and have already learned Latin on paper and are interested in developing active command of the spoken language. Please note that\u00a0<\/span><i><span>Biduum<\/span><\/i><span>\u00a0is not an introductory Latin course and thus is not for people who have no knowledge of the language. Typically, participants have completed, at a minimum, the equivalent of two years of traditional college Latin or four years of a high school Latin program. It is not necessary to have previous experience speaking Latin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location:<\/b><span>\u00a0We reside and conduct our workshop sessions at Spring Valley Ranch in gorgeous Eucha, Oklahoma. This rustic-but-elegant retreat and conference center is in a 500-acre working ranch in the Spavinaw Hills and is surrounded by trees, rivers, hills, lakes, and other natural features. The Timbers Lodge boasts a large deck for enjoying the views and a great room with open beams and a large fireplace. Tulsa International Airport is about a 90-minute drive from the ranch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Cost:<\/b><span>\u00a0$360 per person, all-inclusive, covering two nights in the lodges, five meals, tuition, and instructional materials. Transportation to and from Spring Valley Ranch is not included (though SALVI will help arrange carpooling).
